Our Story

Starting in 1997, Marco Muia aimed to offer competitive consultancy services across all sectors of the waste management industry.

With prior experience as a Licensing Team Leader at the environment agency, Marco ensured client needs were met at all site sizes while understanding the requirements of both the agency and local authorities.

By 2003, the business evolved into Oaktree Environmental Limited, establishing a reputation in the industry as trustworthy consultants. Managing over 300 waste-related applications, the company grew its team of consultants and support staff.

In 2005, Marco partnered with Skip & Waste Magazine, leveraging his industry expertise to write monthly articles (click the Image to see the latest).

At the time identifying the need to expand and set up a planning team, welcoming Richard with extensive experience. Richard introduced CAD Drawings & Survey solutions from his knowledge to Oaktree.

By 2016, the team had outgrown their previous site, relocating to Lime House on the Winsford Industrial Estate to accommodate the expanding team and services.

In 2020, as the industry evolved, Oaktree expanded its survey services to include drone surveys. Over the years, this service grew, resulting in a fleet of drones with two qualified pilots.

Almost three decades later, Oaktree continues to grow and adapt to the market with a dedicated team of 13 staff ready to provide support.

Meet the Team

Our team consists of highly qualified and motivated professionals with many years of experience. They have the expertise to provide a comprehensive, first-rate service to all of our client sectors.

John Smith BSc MSc MCIWM

Marco formed Oaktree Environmental in 1997 coming from the Environment Agency as a Team Leader. Marco is a CIWM/WAMITAB accredited assessor and provides expert witness assistance in permitting appeals and in court cases. He also holds the level 4 COTCs for Hazardous Waste Treatment and Transfer.

Richard Sims BSc MSc

Richard has been with us since January 2005 and has been a Director since 2012. He manages our drone survey and CAD teams, producing high quality outputs. You will often find Richard being the step between our planning and permitting consultants ensuring your projects run smoothly.

Joanne Perry

Jo joined us in August 2003, and is the longest serving employee of Oaktree (after the directors). She brought with her many years in the Finance and Credit control sector. Jo can often be found in our office managing Oaktree’s accounts department and also provides operational support to our directors.

Dr David Young BEng MSc MIEnvSc MIAQM

David joined us in April 2009, he is now one of our Principal Consultants, he has brought with him a wealth of knowledge with Air Quality Assessments. He now specialises with advising you on air emissions modelling, legislation and Environmental Impact Assessment as well as permitting for installations & agriculture operations.

Chris Parry BSc

Chris joined us in April 2011 after working with the Local Authority as a Surveyor. Chris’s speciality is Environmental Permitting and Planning. he is our lead on waste permitting and is able to provide extensive knowledge and guidance on all types of waste sites including ELV and metal recycling, waste transfer stations, material recycling facilities and soil/aggregate recycling. Chris can also provide guidance and assistance to assist with Environmental Compliance issues. Chris also holds the MROC2 WAMITAB qualification which he achieved in 2021 and is currently in the process of obtaining the 12-unit HROC6 qualification.

Tiffany Holden PTech.NALP

Tiff joined us in March 2016 as a Technical Administrator, she has brought with her over 6 years experience in the building and removals sectors, and has extensive Customer Service skills. Tiff will often be found supporting the consultants on a day to day basis and specialises in waste returns, scrap metal dealers licences, waste exemptions and waste carrier registrations. Tiff has recently completed additional training to navigate the legal complexities of the industries we work.

Isaac Allen BSc

Isaac joined us in June 2019 as a senior Environmental Consultant he has brought with him knowledge from both another consultancy and Local Authority Planning. You will often find Isaac assisting clients with the complexities of Environmental permits whether it it on site or via desktop analysis.

Jordan Hewitt

Jordan joined us in September 2022 as a Surveyor and CAD Engineer, he has extensive experience with surveying equipment both on the ground and maintaining the equipment. When out on site Jordan will often be found flying the Drones, when he is back in the office he will be taking the data and delivering extensive outputs to the specification required.

Josh Ulyatt BSc

Josh joined the business in June 2023 as an Environmental Consultants, he has brought with him knowledge in Contaminated land and a overview in engineering. Josh now can be found on the out in the field whether it is advising on contaminated land or completing Noise Surveys. This includes providing the associated assessments for the use in planning and permitting applications.

Benjamin Medlock BA MSc

Ben joined us in October 2023 as a Principal Planning Consultant, he has brought with him a wealth of knowledge working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK with a variety of different roles. Ben can now be found assisting clients with there planning requirements , weather it is liaising with Local Planning authority or having to take a Proactive approach to design and Layout plans.

Steven Gunn-Russell BA(Hons), DipTP, MRTPI

Steven Joined us in January 2024 as a Principal Planning Consultant, he has knowledge and experience of Residential, Retail, and Industrial developments from both the private sector and Local authority stand points. Steven will often be found assisting clients with their projects advising on potential planning constraints and development options both on site and via email.

Mike Craig-Meyer

Mike Joined the business in January 2024 as a Sales and Marketing Manager, he has brought his Sales and Procurement experience from both the Utilities and Building Merchant Sector, as a result you might find Mike out with our Consultants trying to asses Utilities assets for us to use in Planning and Permitting applications. Mike will normally be the first point of contact to find out the requirements for your business, he understands the importance of tailor made solutions for each client to ensure all outputs are met.

Emma Gibson BSc PGCert

Emma has joined us in April 2024 as a consultant, she has brought with her several years knowledge in Permitting, as well as agriculture knowledge. You will often find Emma supporting you with your permitting requirements, whether that is advising you on your applications or working with the planning team on CAD designs.
